Project Advantage are proud to be associated
with, and run a variety of projects for Meridian Energy Ltd. Global
Reconciliation is just one of the many Meridian projects successfully
rolled out with Project Advantage’s support.
The electricity generated and supplied into
our homes or business is traded every half hour; the infrastructure and
systems required for this market to function are complex and therefore
must be reliable. In May 2008 major industry wide change happened within
the electricity market. The purpose of Meridian’s Global
Reconciliation project was
to change core systems to interface with this updated market.
-
This project provided two
key benefits. Firstly it was integral that the design should make for a
more viable open market. Secondly it needed to encourage reductions in
electricity losses through the identification of Unaccounted For Energy
(UFE).
-
This was a high risk
project and very challenging deployment; given the numerous effected
systems, internal & external stakeholders, level of affected work
practices and potential business risk. Strategies were developed
to manage the risks; interruption to the customer’s service was
paramount to mitigate against. Due to the numbers of third parties
involved change was unavoidable and needed to be rigorously managed.
O There were significant updates to
the billing, meter estimation and data warehouse
designs, as well as ripple through changes, which
affected many other systems. O Three major vendors were engaged
with numerous
smaller vendors. High
level coordination was required between these
vendors and all stakeholders. O Over fifty business processes were produced,
or updated, and extensive training conducted
throughout the business. O
Final testing was undertaken over a twelve
week period before the final transition which was
over a two months period.
In
the end the project was delivered on time, to budget and provided the
agreed
quality.
