Project Advantage are proud to be associated
with, and manage projects for Fulton Hogan, a major trans-Tasman civil
contracting company, with interests in a broad range of products and
services in the roading, quarrying, civil construction, infrastructure
maintenance and land development sectors.
-
The overall brief for the new
Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) was to define
Laboratory requirements, select a product, develop the integrated
solution, rollout the system and train the users before handing
over to business-as-usual. Business drivers
included:
-
o
increasing internal efficiency
o providing clients with standardised
results
o eliminating the risk of obsolete
technology by
replacing existing systems with a single
centralized system that meets Fulton Hogans
future technology requirements and is
expandable
-
The new LIMS has
been implemented across 6 sites in New Zealand & 4 sites in
Australia and has been a major undertaking for the
company. Fulton Hogans laboratories provide a vast array of
testing services to internal and external customers, covering civil
engineering materials testing through to water and air quality
monitoring. As well as covering mainstream testing, individual
laboratories operate specialist services and are considered centres
of excellence in these areas. All laboratories provide high quality
services and maintain ISO 17025 accreditation. The project was
quality led and no Labs have lost their IANZ/NATA accreditation as
a result of the change to the new system.
-
The overall project was complex,
requiring the development of an interface to the companys financial
system and was executed during a period of significant change in
the workplace i.e. change in the IT Service provider, data centre
move, Citrix upgrade, Desktop migration from Windows 2000 to XP and
a finance system migration. While the LIMS product is
off-the-shelf, the project team developed an excellent relationship
with the main vendor and has been able to influence how new
features have been developed.
