Summary of Project Advantages

Project Management Training Courses

Introduction to Project Managementis our introductory course for people unfamiliar with working in a project environment.  This course introduces the terms and concepts which need to be understood in order to work effectively in a project environment.

Introduction to Change Managementfocuses on the specific activities of project change management.  It guides participants through base-lining of requirements, implementing a change control process and effective control of change throughout a project

Introduction to Project Leadershipguides project managers through the opportunities and potential pitfalls of leading project teams.  Project Managers achieve results through effective team leadership, often in matrix organizations.  This course helps them to understand: team structure and dynamics; influencing and motivational techniques; and effective target and milestone setting.

Principles of Project Managementis our core project management course, covering all aspects of a project from Initiation to Closing, based on the Project Management Institute Body of Knowledge (PMBoKTM).  Over 3 days we work through all of the knowledge areas and embed the training by use of examples and workshops.  At the end of this course, participants are ready to implement project management tools and techniques.

PMP & CAPM Preparationis delivered over 5 weeks, 1 day per week, leading up to the paper based exams in Christchurch and Wellington.  The course prepares students for sitting the Project Management Institute, Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) exams.  The effective course structure and delivery has resulted in a high exam pass rate for students and a high level of knowledge retention post exam.

Project Risk Managementis a core project management activity, but its effectiveness depends on the understanding of a project manager in how to apply the tools, and how many of the tools to apply.  In this course we explain and give examples of risk management from the most basic approach for small projects to more complex approaches for larger projects.  Students are supplied with tailorable templates to use in implementing effective risk management in future projects

Project Team Managementprovides attendees with information to understand the dynamics in their teams and help make them work more effectively.  In addition to examining team member characteristic and attributes and how they affect team interaction and effectiveness, we address areas such as team structures, communication and effective task setting.

Project Stakeholder Managementprovides guidance to project managers on how to effectively manage project stakeholders.  Topics include: stakeholder identification and engagement; understanding stakeholder motivations; communication needs; and management of both pro- and con- stakeholders.

Project Conflict Managementprovides participants with an insight into the reasons for conflict, and how to deal with various conflict situations.  Conflict can be a positive force within a project team, encouraging outside-of-the-box thinking and driving the team to high levels of performance. Alternatively conflict can be destructive leading to team dysfunction and project failure. This module also covers topics such as mediation and negotiation skills.

Project Reporting & Earned Valueis a powerful approach to predicting project performance and therefore improving the control of projects.  The course explains how Earned Value works and how to implement it.

Building a Project Management Officeprovides information and guidance for implementing a PMO in a projectised environment.  A PMO provides a centralized repository for project information, and also provides the control and structure framework for all projects.  This includes standardized initialization, implementation, reporting and closure of all projects.

Better Portfolio Managementhas been designed to provide information to senior managers who need to control a portfolio of projects.  The course addresses: approaches to potential project assessment and prioritization; resource allocation; schedule/milestone structure; and interdependencies.
